According to a study, craving for alcohol among women is increasing rapidly.

For women, this craving is limited to four glasses of alcohol in a certain period, but the average six glasses get somewhere. But, many of them don’t know that they are actually exposing themselves to the serious health hazard. Let us not make it a gender issues, but it is medically proved now that woman’s body is different from that of a man when it is about alcoholism. Let us talk about the ill-effects of alcohol on women.

A woman’s body is different from that of a man. The differences between the sexes on the amount of alcohol that reaches the bloodstream, known as blood alcohol concentration (CAS) may contribute the following factors. On average, a woman’s body contains fat cells by 10% in addition to the man’s body. Fat layers contain less water and alcohol is absorbed through the water first and then the blood into tissues. Women produce an enzyme in smaller amounts in the stomach that process alcohol. Because of smaller stature, a woman’s body contains less blood alcohol dissolve when it reaches the bloodstream.

It is impossible to predict precisely how an individual will react to alcohol because we all are unique and every situation is unique (e.g. height, weight, quantity and time at which the meal, genetics, medication, health status). However, women are always at a higher risk of health as compared to men, when it is about drinking alcohol. As per experts, this is why women are advised to drink less alcohol than men. Women should not try to drink side by side with men. In simpler terms, on a woman who takes one drink, it is going to give the same level of damage that it will give to a man who take two drinks.

In addition, the female body does not tolerate alcohol so good as that of men because of the hormone estrogen, which in interaction with alcohol can cause more serious health problems. This is due to the fact that women’s bodies contain more water than men. For example, if a man and a woman consume the same amount of alcohol before they go for a blood test, alcohol concentration in the woman are going to be much higher than in men for the same reasons – the woman has less water in the body than a man.

As compare to men, women develop the dependence on alcohol more rapidly, which can increase the risk of heart disease, or liver, certain types of ulcers, osteoporosis, pancreatitis, and reproductive system problems or memory loss. In the later stages of alcoholism, most women who suffer from this disease show medical conditions such as hypertension, anemia or malnutrition, and cancer of the respiratory tract, due to an increased sensitivity manifested at the cellular level. Also, a study conducted revealed that women who consume 2-5 glasses of alcohol a day increase their chances of developing breast cancer by up to 41%, this risk is even higher if women with old age.

The aftereffects of excessive alcohol consumption on the reproductive system always remained a topic of discussion among experts; alcoholism is a direct attack on the female reproductive system that can even infertility. Moreover, scientists have shown that there is a close connection between disorders of menstruation and alcohol dependence once a woman becomes addicted. Even more worrisome are cases in which women consumed alcohol during pregnancy, which will lead to the underdevelopment of the fetus or serious physical and mental defects in the baby.

Pregnant women should not be drinking at all is in harmony or seek advice from a doctor before consuming an alcoholic beverage. Currently, there is no consensus on the amount of alcohol a pregnant woman can consume without any risk to the fetus. If you are pregnant, you must realize that during pregnancy the fetus is directly related to the mother through the umbilical cord, and therefore, once the alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream, it rapidly reaches the placenta. In medical terms, this is called fetal alcohol syndrome, a medical condition with irreversible effects. In fact, the effects of excessive alcohol consumption during pregnancy are so severe that health experts recommend that women must give up alcohol once she decides to have a child.

Finally, in case you are an addicted, there is still a hope for you. There are rehabilitation centers and medications available, but the most important part thing is – Will Power. Do I really to tell you that you are not supposed to mix alcohol and drugs at the same time?

Whether you are under treatment recommended by a doctor or taking medication, some medications should never be mixed with alcohol. Consult your doctor or pharmacist to see if you consume alcohol during drug treatment.
