Medically termed as Telangiectasias, spider veins are a tangled group of small blood vessels that are superficial in nature, located right below the surface of the skin. Appearing in a blue and green web-like pattern, this brings an unpleasant feeling of being affected with a disease. Spider Veins & Its Types

These veins are connected to larger venous system of the human body and can exhibit three different types of patterns. They can be either isolated or may occur in association with feeder veins and large varicose veins. These patterns may include –

  2. A tree branch pattern
  3. Matting or linear pattern of thin lines

Causes of Spider Veins

Women are at a greater risk of developing this condition as compared to men. Spider veins are not the result of any specific individual factor, but can occur due to various factors in both men and women.

The triggering factors may include age, sex, hereditary, habits, gender, pregnancy and lifestyle. Other factors that contribute this condition may include body weight pressure, hormones, immobility, injuries, family history, alcohol consumption, and exposure to sun.

Many people have this impression that spider veins causes swelling and pain, however, they are not associated with any discomfort, with the exception of few cases and are considered mere cosmetic flaws.

Options for Spider Veins Treatment

Although there are many laser treatments available but the treatment of Sclerotherapy is considered ideal in spider veins treatment.

A simple medical procedure, this treatment involves injecting the salt-water solution combined with ethanol into the veins and gradually the network of veins fades over the due course of time due to the fibrosis of the veins.

The solution used in this treatment is also termed as sclerosing agent and is generally hypotonic in nature. Sclerotherapy is safer and a reasonable treatment process as compared to laser treatment of the spider veins.

These veins can be an impediment to flawless external appearance, therefore according to the experts; Sclerotherapy is the most appropriate way of spider veins treatment.
