What I really Liked About Casio G-Shock GA-500
It’s a shock. Awesome packing. Inside a card box, it was nicely packed in a black aluminum made extra shiny box.
Inside the box, you will find your G-Shock 500 watch, nicely wrapped around a sponge cushion. In addition, you will find an instruction manual and a nicely printed international warranty card.
Looking at the quality and finishing of its box, you can judge the seriousness of G-Shock guys for their brand.

The instruction manual was more likely a chemistry school book; scared me a bit. If you are a first time G-Shock user, you are going to have a hard time with the functions of G-Shock watches.
The Stylish Look of G-Shock GA 500
The first impression of the watch was – it looks like GA-700. If you give it a casual look, you won’t be able to spot much difference between the exterior of GA-500 and GA-700. However, after looking at it closely, you will be able to see the differences.
GA-500’s dial and buttons are different. Though most of the functions are same, but the way they are operated is different.
I really liked the semi circle shaped button on this watch. On the right, you will find light and search button.
To turn the light on (1.5 seconds to 3.0 seconds) you need to hard press light button. Pressing search button will give access to a 31 different time zones (48 cities + coordinated universal time) list of nearly other countries and their respective times.
On the left, you will find the mode and adjust button.
These buttons are going to be your main buttons because most of the G-Shock GA 500 functions are under these two buttons.
Resin made case and strap
The case and strap of the watch is made of resin. In case, you don’t know, resin is very good in terms of durability and chemical reactions. The rubber strap is awesome and is much better than usual rubber straps.
Strap and ventilation
You don’t feel any pressure on your wrist while wearing GA-500. The holes on the strap are fairly large and the purpose served by these holes is ventilation.
These holes keep the air circulation stable and reduce the overall weight of GA 500. This is the reason, you won’t feel any stress or pressure, even after wearing this watch for hours.
Scratch Resistant Glass
Not many of you know that the glass used for GA-500 watch is a mineral glass.
Mineral glass is an ordinary tempered glass made of silica that is more scratch resistant.
G-Shock GA 500 comes with 4 alarms and one snooze. So, you are free to set four different alarms. In addition, there is a very nice full auto-calendar (to the year 2099).
This model is water resistant up to 20 bars mean 200 meters. So, no problem wearing it near water.
This is a battery operated watch and battery life is pretty decent;. Up to 3 years (as claimed by the manufacturer).
Above all, this watch looks very stylish and if you wear casuals, then this watch is an undeniable addition to your personality.
Things I Disliked About Casio G-Shock GA-500
The first turn-off for me – hands overlapping digital display.
If you are in need of a digital display (suppose you are using a stop watch), you won’t be able to see it clearly, if hands are positioned on the digital display. Though you can adjust these, yet it is a turn-off.
Too much technicalities
This is a watch only for tech-savvy people. If you are not a G-Shock user, you will need a lot of time to understand the functions. The worst part is, there are no online tutorials available.
Illumination is not good
I didn’t like the way LED lights are positioned in this watch.
Instead of providing ease, the wrongly positioned LED lights are making it hard to read the data in dark conditions. The LCD is almost untouched by the led lights.
Being a G-Shock user, playing with its function was not at all tough for me. Casio G-shock GA-500 looks quite thick and futuristic. My overall experience with this G-Shock GA500 is awesome.
