Be it chronograph, analog or digital, I am madly in love with watches. However, unlike others, I wisely spend money on these time showcases. At the same time, it is about clicking as well; if something within my budget clicks my mind, I never miss the deal. Last month, on my birthday, after working hard for a year, I applauded myself with Fossil (3039I) Sport 54 Chronograph Light Brown Leather Watch. Today, I am going to review it for all my wristwatch fans.
This time, I bought it from a local store; of course from an authorized dealer (laugh!).
Let’s start with its packing.
I was quite impressed with the packing. It was packed in a nicely designed tin (I hope that’s the material) box. On two sides, you can see the fossil branding; a nicely printed logo.
If you don’t know, Fossil introduced these iconic tin boxes in 1989. The graphics on these tin boxes are inspired by American fifties’ graphics.

Inside the box, you will find your Fossil 3039I watch pragmatically wrapped around a hard plastic base.
With the watch, you will get a standard instruction manual and Fossil group warranty validation card.
What I really Liked About Fossil 3039I
Fossil 3039I comes with a flawless design. Looks wise, I would not hesitate to give it full marks.
I really liked its stainless steel body and round shape. One the right side of the watch, you will see three buttons.
The middle one is a crown, the top button is for starting or stopping a chronograph, and the bottom one is for resetting the chronograph.
The date window comes at 4 o’clock.
To set date, you need to slightly pull the crown to one level. Then, to adjust the date, rotate the knob in a clockwise position until you get the desired date. You won’t be able to rotate the knob in anti-clock position.
To fix the time, you need to pull the crown to level to 2. Here, you will be able to rotate the knob in any direction; clockwise or anti-clockwise. Fix the time. Once done, push the knob back to level 0 and you will be able to see the minute’s hand moving. Time setting is done.
I must say, this watch is designed for running or racing enthusiasts, who are really concerned about their milliseconds.
This watch comes with three wonderfully designed chronograph subdials for minutes, seconds and milliseconds.
The tachymeter on the rib of the watch is again for the use of racing genius. Using this scale, they can measure speed based on time and distance.
I don’t want to go much into the details about tachymeter functionality; a lot of mathematics involved.
I truly love watches with leather straps and most of my watches are with a leather strap.
Just look at the quality of the strap; its amazing.
Can you see the branding on the leather strap? What a fineness!
The whole strap seems like stitched with one thread; flawlessly done.
I would say, Fossil guys are excellent with the quality of buckle, buckle tongue and free loops. I have no words and I cannot see anything to complain about.
I loved it. What more can a buyer expect than a free replacement during the warranty period or 50% of the watch value to buy a new one after the warranty period, in case, the company fails to fix the problem?
This is what we can say, “challenging the limits and showing confidence in the product.”
Your Fossil 3039I is a 10 ATM watch. In simpler terms, 10 ATM is equivalent to 100 meters of sea level.
So, your watch is fine in the water until you are wearing it, while scuba diving.
This is a battery operated watch and battery life is pretty decent. The best part is, batteries come with a 12 months goodwill guarantee. It means, in case a watch needs battery replacement within 12 months of purchase, it will be done free of charge. Isn’t amazing?
Things I Disliked About Fossil 3039I
The instructional manual printed in 6 international languages covers the standard information about the watch. It seems like a standard manual for all the models. And, if you are not a chronograph user, you may find it hard to understand the functions.
I personally feel weight of Fossil 3039I is little on the higher side.

Though it comes with a calendar, it is not a perpetual calendar watch. In case, you don’t know what perpetual calendar watch is a fully automatic calendar that can automatically adjust the calendar at the end of each month, including the months of a leap year until February 28, 2100.
In this watch, you need to adjust the date, in case you are in a month of 30 days. Well, that is not a big trouble, though.
Although I am a Fossil fan and I know how to use chronograph watches, yet I believe this watch is little overpriced for the offered functions. In case, you are not a chronograph user, you can have any other stylish and functionally rich watch in this price.
My overall experience with this Fossil 3039I was awesome. Being a chronograph user, I experienced no difficulty with its functions.
