I delivered my first lecture, when I was in the second year of my college. Trust me, it is not at all easy. Public speaking is not an easy thing to do.
I am sure, you must have been to various seminars and public lectures. Have you ever imagined yourself as the speaker? You probably had delivered a few presentations at work and you found yourself doing pretty well. Have you ever considered becoming a public speaker? Do you know, how to be a public speaker? Here are the basics for you.
1Find A Niche
If you seriously want to be a public speaker, my first suggestion to you is, find a niche that you best understand, depending on your specialization. You can speak for hours on a topic that you understand completely.
Do not think about how speakers of other niches are doing. You don’t want to look like an answer-less person standing in front of a mic on the stage. Do you?
2Be An Expert
By being an expert, it is not only about the stage. You are not supposed to focus on public speaking. The idea is of engaging yourself in other activities like writing some books, going to seminars, making some video tutorial and sharing your knowledge about it.
The more you do these, the more you become an expert in your field. By doing this, you be will be able to overcome the fear of public speaking. Do keep in mind that you cannot always trick the audience. So, your expertise must be real and credible.
3Never Stop Learning
Be it any profession, the moment you stop updating yourself, people will forget you. If after a seminar, no one approaches you for a business card, it means your speech was not the best.
At that stage, modifying your speech from presentation to presentation becomes very important. For that purpose, never stop learning and updating yourself. Keep introducing new stuff to your presentations and lectures.
4Learn To Sell
Before selling anything, you need to learn to sell yourself. In other words, never overlook the importance of promoting yourself. Hire someone to make you a website.
Create a blog and start writing about your experiences and presentations.
But, do keep in mind that you must keep your website up-to-date because if someone goes to your site and does not find what he wants, he will go elsewhere.
5Develops A Marketing Program
Digital marketing is in the trends now. So, it is only about having a website, but you need a plan to market as well. Think about email campaigns, social media marketing, search engine optimization, and YouTube marketing.
If you are not on tight budgets, then you can opt for TV and print media commercials. These all are very important if you really want to become known and become a professional.
