Eye-liners have been my absolute favorite ever since I was in college. Even though I had a never ending love for kajals but chronic eye sensitivity immediately made me quickly stop using them.
The only alternative I had was eye liners. One thing with eye liners is that when you start applying them, you see a complete change in your look instantly. So, moving from kajal to eye liner was not difficult for me given that I liked the changed look that the eye liner gave me. Speaking of eye liners, today I’m going to review one luxury brand eye-liner that has been in the market for quite some time. It is an absolute favorite of those who have been using it also – Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Liner.
Up until a few years back, Bobbi Brown had no store in India and anyone who had to purchase this brand had to get it from abroad or online – not to mention the extra duty one had to pay. But I remember when this brand’s store opened up in India, first in Delhi, you had to wait for at least 15-20 minutes before anyone could come and attend to you.
But now it is readily available online and we couldn’t be happier. So I have for you a review of this gel eye-liner by Bobbi Brown and let’s see if it is worth the purchase or not.
Texture of the gel liner
As you can see in the images, the texture of the liner is absolutely smooth. Although, yes, it did dry up pretty quickly and I had to use baby oil to fix it, but any new pot comes with a very smooth texture.
It is easy to apply with a liner brush and glides on smoothly in only one application. If you like your liner really thick you would need to reapply the same. But for people who prefer a thin crisp line, can do with only one stroke.
They say that this Bobbi Brown Gel Liner can last up to 12 hours. Yes, it does. But the only thing I noticed was that it does get a little lighter towards the end of the day. Now it could be because of the fact that I have oily skin and oil does get to my eyelids also. This could very much be the reason.
But if I compare the application of the time I put it and the time I remove it, there is definitely a lot of difference in the same. You might want to reapply the liner in case you are looking at a fresh look to last at least 12 hours.
What I liked about the product
So, the very first thing that I liked about this product is that the shade Caviar Ink is a matte shade. I’m not a fan of glossy shades of eye-liners and this one was the perfect fit for me.
Although when you look at the liner, you may think that it is going to be glossy but when you apply it on your eyes and it dries up, it gives you a very nice matte finish, which is especially great if you are trying to make a smoky-eye look.
Another thing I really found great in Bobbi Brown Gel Liner is the fact that it glides on very smoothly. Just one stroke of the brush is good enough to give you a stunning look.
Even though it requires you to have a steady hand, it is not very difficult to use.
Nobody wants to wear a liner that smudges at the slightest stroke. As for whether this eye liner is smudge proof or not, it absolutely is. You can wear it easily for up to 12 hours (so it says on the pack) and it won’t budge a bit. I think it is pretty decent in this matter because a lot of eye liners that I have previously used have smudged. But this one, I guarantee, won’t.
Now whether you want to apply a winged liner, or a simple one, Bobbi Brown should be your ultimate choice in luxury brands.
What I disliked about the product
With every good thing in a product come things that you don’t like as well. So to begin with, the very first thing that I disliked about Bobbi Brown Gel liner was that it dried up in the pot far easily.
In about 2 months of having purchased this pack, it started drying up and even had a crack in the liner (as you can see in the image). I had to use baby oil and warmed it a little for the consistency to be better so it could be applied. When you pay so much for a product you hope it will stay the same for at least some time. But 2 months were enough for it to dry out completely. I did not appreciate it at all.

I have an acne prone skin, which means it is very oily. So a very big negative that came for me when I used it was that it is not oil proof or water proof. I get my eye lids oily very soon so the liner does get removed at the stroke of a finger when I have oil around my eyes.
Last but not least, it does not come with a brush. All you get to have after spending about $30 / Rs.2,000 from your pocket is just a pot of gel liner. You do not get to have a brush for application. Now the thing is if you have already used a gel liner before, you must have an old brush which will absolutely do the work.
However, if this is your first time purchasing a gel liner, then you might have to spend additional amount on a brush as well. So that makes it more expensive for a first time buy.
