Yes, I know that the market is full of solutions; chemical pesticides/insecticides sprays. But, I have kids and I don’t want to use those chemicals. I know they are not dangerous for the environment, but for humans too. So, how to get rid of ants? Here are some natural ways to get rid of ants in the kitchen.
Do Not Invite Them For Dining
If you have ants in your house, the main problem is the amount of food that you put at your disposal. If your home is clean and fresh, ants will give up after a certain period.
Wash all surfaces that come into contact with food and disinfect them as well. Even a simple splash of juice or March is quite a feast for ants.
Store food well covered, so that no smell at all emanate. Use covers, protective foil or store it in the refrigerator for safety.
Keep It Clean
Also, deal with the garbage and dirty dishes, once the ants have appeared. Like in the case of cockroaches, most types of ants are attracted to the smell of dirt or a simple piece of bread on the floor.
If you have pets, you have to improvise a little about food bowl. Because ants have no access to, food, food bowl sits inside another slightly larger with water. Thus, when the ants will try to climb, come into contact with water and not with food.
Look Out For The Spies
A new group of ants always sends some spies to inspect the house. If you notice one or two stray ants in the kitchen, do not allow them to return to the nest as they return with the whole family.
Use a vacuum cleaner with disposable bags and vacuum them. Throw the bag as far away from home, or burn it to make sure they will not go back.
Kill The Queen And Destroy Her Castle
The best way to get rid of these insects is to destroy the source, the queen because it produces a large number of ants. Once it disappears, it will not nest high. Queen does not come to the surface, but is typically in the bottom of the nest.
I am not an ant expert. How do I know about Queen? Well, quite a simple thing. If you see an ant higher than the rest; that is the Queen. Do not hesitate to exterminate because it is likely to be a brand in search of a new nest. They are generally 3 times larger than worker ants and may have wings.
If you locate the nesting colony of ants, the safest is to destroy it by pouring boiling water inside.
Insulate Your Home
Because ants are very small, they can make room for even the finest crack. Try to fly on the heels visible from doors and windows. Use wood putty or silicone to make sure that the port is unreachable.
House insulation is beneficial in terms of heat loss and is the best way to get rid of ants, especially if you have children or pets.
Also check the plugs, switches or cracks on the walls. Baseboard floor, carpet or carpet can hide ants.
Create A Barrier
Sprinkle salt, vinegar, mint oil, cinnamon, cilia, pepper, chili and bay leaves in the doors or windows or in places where ants enter usually. Also, talcum powder, chalk or lime have the same effect insect repellent.
You will need to make sure they will not come into contact with children or animals in the house because it can cause severe allergies or suffocation.
A less toxic solution can be obtained from a teaspoon of pure alcohol, two tablespoons of dishwashing liquid, and 150 ml water. Using a spray, squirting all surfaces in contact with the ants, and even the flowers or trees they climb. The solution is not harmful, and alcohol will make them stay away in the future.
If you see a group of ants, spray over them a solution of water and chlorine water and detergent. Then, clean the surface with a wet paper towel.
Trap Them & Wrap Them
A good trap against them is cornmeal. Allow them to eat as much corn as when they drink water will die.
The best poison for ants is a boric acid solution. Depending on its concentration, the effect will be immediate or temporary. The basic principle is that an infected ant colony to reach and spread poison. If the solution is too low, the effect will be easy and ants will only be weakened. A powerful solution will kill ants before they reach the nest.
Here is a recipe easy to make at home. To have this solution you need one cup of water, 2 cups of sugar and two tablespoons of boric acid and for a stronger combo, you can variate the amounts to 3 cups of water, one cup of sugar and 4 tablespoons of boric acid.
Put the solution into a container and plug it securely with a cap, nylon or tape. Make a few holes, sufficient for ants to enter inside.
Use butter or chocolate cream so inside the box, and outside, to make sure that the ants will be attracted into the trap. After they ate, let them return safely to the colony.
Spread Chili Powder
If you have small children in the house, it is advisable to not to use the use toxic substances. However, you can get rid of ants with natural insecticides: chili powder.
They are as effective as dried mint leaves. Spread these “ingredients.” Ants will detect the smell and will stay away.
In addition to these, there are few more home remedies like cucumber. Cucumber is an effective remedy for ants as they do not like the taste of cucumber.
Just put pieces of cucumbers in the affected areas and the ants will go home. Cucumber is toxic to them so ants avoid eating cucumber peel. Also, you can try a solution of salt mixed with warm water.
Spray the solution on areas where you see ants quite often. You can also try baby powder. Sprinkle baby powder over ants’ place. Baby powder contains talc and ants hate the smell of talc.
