The Brangelina union has come to an end.
Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences. She applied for physical custody of their six children and asked the court to grant Pitt visitation rights. There doesn’t seem to be a squabble over child support or splitting of property. Jolie admittedly stated that she would like to keep some miscellaneous personal effects.
Speculations have been made as to the true reason behind the couple’s split; TMZ reports that Jolie was fed up with Pitt’s substance and alcohol abuse, they also cited that Pitt might have an anger problem which affected his parenting ability. Page Six reported that Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt after hiring a private investigator who discovered that Pitt was cheating on her with co-star, Marion Cotillard.
We may not know the true reason behind the split, but we are certain that one of Hollywood’s high profile marriage is over.
Angelina and Jolie reportedly connected on the set of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ in 2004 while Pitt was still married to his former wife, Jennifer Aniston.

In January 2005, Aniston filed for divorce from Pitt. Less than three months later, photos surfaced of Pitt, Jolie and her son, Maddox. The couple had been together till 2014, when they finally tied the knot in a private ceremony.
The Jolie-Pitt romance has since been an object of media scrutiny. It was rumoured that Pitt cheated on Aniston with Jolie. Many people condemned Jolie for jeopardizing another marriage, while others condemned Pitt for being a philanderer. However, the couple stayed strong, adopting three children and raising three of their birth children.
Together they started the Jolie-Pitt foundation. In 2013, Jolie had a preventative double mastectomy when she discovered that she carried the BRCA-1 which exponentially increased her chances of getting breast cancer. During this trying time, she repeatedly told news agencies that she was glad her husband, Pitt, was supportive of her decision. He also showed immense support when she eventually decided to take out her ovaries and fallopian tubes.
However, this has not spared the couple of the media’s vindictiveness as people still feel that their split is an act of karmic retribution.
In a statement to CNN, Pitt said, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
Divorce rates among celebrities have always been high and the news of their split came as a shock to the media and world.
